They have since narrowed down the assistant coach search to former Bruin Marc Savard, and Brian Wiseman.
It was announced over the weekend that Guy Boucher would not return to the Maple Leafs bench as assistant to Craig Berube in the 2024-2025 NHL season.
The team according to NHL Insider Chris Johnston has narrowed it down to Savard and Wiseman.
Savard was originally an assistant with the Calgary Flames, prior to parting ways in May to let Savard explore other opportunities.
His parting with the Flames in may led others to believe that he would join the Maple Leafs soon after. However, it hasn't happened yet.
Wiseman, however, has been an assistant with the San Jose Sharks and helped the team lead the leagues 7th best power-play, making him a major asset, which according to Jeff Marek they hope to keep.
Given the Leafs' power-play struggle this season and with news of Wiseman's unlikeliness to leave his situation in San Jose, it could be Savard's job to lose.
