In a recent update regarding the tragic incident involving ice hockey player Adam Johnson, there has been a noteworthy development. Matt Petgrave, initially taken into custody on suspicion of manslaughter, has been released on bail pending further investigation.

Presently, no charges have been filed against him.

The unfortunate event unfolded during a match against the Sheffield Steelers on October 28, resulting in Johnson's fatal neck injury from an accidental cut by Petgrave's skate.

Despite immediate medical attention, Johnson was declared dead at the hospital. A subsequent post-mortem examination confirmed the severe neck injury as the cause of death.

Although Petgrave has refrained from playing since the incident, the team acknowledged him on the scoreboard during a recent game, prompting fans to give him a standing ovation.

While police have not officially confirmed Petgrave's identity, strong indications point to his involvement. The suspect, apprehended on Tuesday, has been released on bail.

Detective Chief Superintendent Becs Horsfall, leading the investigation for South Yorkshire Police, emphasized the extensive efforts to comprehend the circumstances surrounding Adam's tragic loss.

Ongoing inquiries involve specialized experts and collaboration with the health and safety department at Sheffield City Council.
