Willie O'Ree broke the color barrier in hockey, when he made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins on January 18th, 1958.
However, almost three years later, he accomplished a league first once again. As per author Mike Commito:
''On this day in 1961, Willie O'Ree scored a goal in a game against the Canadiens, becoming the first Black player to score an NHL goal.''
O'Ree would go on to play 45 NHL games, all with the Bruins, recording 4 goals and 10 assists.
