Referee forced to make cringy speech prior to opening puck drop (VIDEO)

The NHL is officially back! Well, in North America anyway, with a Tuesday night matchup between the New York Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning at Madison Square Garden.
However, the game started with somewhat of a cringy moment, as veteran official Chris Rooney gave an obviously scripted speech:
''To our great players and our great fans, welcome to opening night of the 2022/23 NHL season. What better than this? Good luck to all players. Let's have a great season.''
