Since reports first came out last summer that Patrick Kane would potentially be available for trade, teams have lined up to joint the sweepstakes.
One of the main teams interest, the New York Rangers, went and acquired another top forward available. That being Vladimir Tarasenko, leaving many to think the asking price for Kane is too high.
However, as ESPN's Emily Kaplan explains, there's more to it than that:
''According to sources, the Rangers targeted Tarasenko - a player they long coveted - and decided to go for it after feeling the asking prices for Timo Meier and Patrick Kane were too high.''
'Also sounds like New York had some concerns over Kane's hip injury.'' But as Andy Strickland of Bally Sports shared, the veteran has supposedly been suffering from the injury for more than this year.
''Told Patrick Kane has been dealing with a hip injury for multiple seasons. Wondered how much of a concern this would be for other teams considering the price it'll take to get him.''
Kane, 34, has registered 9 goals and 26 assists in 46 games with a struggling Chicago team this season.
