Two ex-NHL players are in hot water after an incident at an event they hosted.
The event, which has been cancelled due to ''inappropriate behaviour,'' was a high-profile fishing tournament and concert series held at the Tofino Resort and Marina in British Columbia, Canada. The venue is partly owned by longtime NHL defensemen Willie Mitchell and Dan Hamhuis.
Patrick Johnston of Province Sports and The Vancouver Sun was the first to report, stating:
''The Vancouver Island resort's high-profile Race to the Blue, a blue water tuna fishing derby, was to run from Sept. 10 to 17. It began on the weekend but has now been cancelled.''
''A scheduled concert series at 1909 Kitchen and Bar, the resort's upscale restaurant, has also been cancelled, according to an Instagram account run by the resort. Bands were booked all week, but beginning on Monday were being told that the series was off.''
Puck Empire on Instagram has the full story below:
''We were extremely upset to hear about highly inappropriate behaviour connected to one of our annual events. Our first concern is for our staff, and we are responding to the needs of those affected,» the statement said. «We have brought in an interim manager and continue to take steps to ensure the absolute safety and well-being of our team.''
Phone calls to the Tofino Resort and Marina's guest services line and to the 1909 Kitchen and Bar went unanswered.
Mitchell and Hamhuis are part of a group of investors, that includes developer Andrew Purdey, who purchased the high-end resort in 2016.
Mitchell apparently deleted his Instagram account at some point on Wednesday morning, an account he'd used to share many photos of him fishing and out on the water.
Attempts to reach Mitchell, Hamhuis and Purdey have not been successful.
Island District RCMP would not comment on the situation.
