Stanley Cup Champion and NHL veteran suddenly leaves the NHL
An NHL veteran and former Stanley Cup Champion suddenly left the NHL following a statement.
Valterri Filppula just announced that he is not done player professional hockey, but he will not be playing in the NHL anymore as he will be returning home to Finland to play in the Finnish Liiga.
Filppula will be joining his former club the Helsinki Jokerit.
Filppula signed a one-year deal with the Helsinki Jokerit, and has the possibility of joining the front office or management after his contract or in the near future.
The Finnish Publication Illta-Sanomat issued a statement on the fact:
According to the editorial information, Valtteri Filppula has signed a contract with the Helsinki club and will be starring for the Jokers in Mestis this season.
It is certain that Filppula will play for the Jokers at least next season. It has also been tentatively agreed that Filppula will have another role in the club after his playing career. According to the information, the role of co-owner in Jokers is being planned for Filppula.
Jokerit will hold a press conference on Monday, August 19. at 11:51 a.m. The time is not a coincidence. The minute reading refers to the game number 51 used by Filppula.
Filppula has played over 1000 NHL games with multiple different teams including the Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders and the Tampa Bay Lightning, and had 530 career points.
