The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) is a lower-tiered pro league mostly consisting of teams in the Southeastern United States.

Like most similar leagues, it doesn't come without its share of confusing news headlines, but the latest may take the cake!

The Vermilion County Bobcats were scheduled to host the Quad City Storm the past weekend but, of course, that didn't happen for an interesting reason.

As per Dave Eminian of PJS Sports:

SPHL drama in Danville, where host Vermilion County never showed up for game vs Quad City. It's a forfeit win for QC. Most bizarre thing I've seen in 40 years covering pro hockey. QC bused in, skated warmups, lined up national anthem/faceoff, skated a lap, then saluted ''crowd''.

He also gave a reason why it happened, and it's quite embarrassing for the club. According to Eminian, the team only has nine wins in over 80 games over the course of one and a half years has left the team with only 10 players.

Quad City was credited with a 1-0 win on the official SPHL website.
