Sweden's hockey program made a significant announcement on Tuesday!

Managing director for Alliance of European Hockey, Szymon Szemberg, reported the news:

Swedish ice hockey association announced that Swedish players in the Russian KHL will not be eligible for selection to the Sweden national team.
''The decision sends a strong message to the hockey world as it's about our fundamental values,'' says association president Anders Larsson.

Stating that any Swedish-born players who are currently or who intend to play hockey in Russia or Belarus will no longer be allowed to represent their home country in any fashion.

This announcement comes after the combined attack by Russia and Belarus on the people of Ukraine.

The IIHF has no longer allowed Russia or Belarus to compete in any international play, such as the World Junior Hockey Championships that took place earlier this month in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the Women's World Hockey Championships currently going on now.

The NHL has cut ties with Russia, and the Canadian Hockey League will no longer allow teams in the OHL, QMJHL, or WHL to draft players in the import draft from Russia.
