Team rosters across the NHL are built in several different ways.
The easiest, and most likely cheapest way, is to find talent from the NHL Entry Draft and bring players up through the system to build a successful team.
But is it the best way to build a true contender?
CapFriendly shared which NHL teams have the most players on their current roster that were acquired via the draft.
As per @CF_DepthCharts on Twitter:
"Based on current projected 20-man rosters, these teams have the most players acquired via the draft.
NY Islanders - 11
Anaheim - 10
Buffalo - 10
Columbus - 10
Dallas - 10
Edmonton - 10
Minnesota - 9
Nashville - 9
New Jersey - 9
Philadelphia - 9
Winnipeg - 9"
None of the teams in that list have had much recent success, besides the Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders making Conference Finals in the past few seasons and the Dallas Stars losing in the Stanley Cup Final in 2020.
A fully healthy Boston Bruins team would make this list with Brad Marchand, Charlie McAvoy, Matthew Grzelcyk and Jakub Zboril all on LTIR and not on the active roster.
