Originating from an incident during a team celebration in a hotel room, the matter prompted both London Police and Hockey Canada to initiate investigations.
As the passage of time transformed months into years, fans began to lose hope of ever learning the investigation's outcome. However, a recent announcement by Hockey Canada has brought a significant update the completion of their thorough investigation.
Yet, the burning question remains: will the findings be made public? The answer, for now, is a resounding "not yet."
According to Hockey Canada, the release of details is currently stalled by the ongoing appeal process.
In November 2022, an independent adjudicative panel received the final investigative report from Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP concerning the allegations against the 2018 National Junior Team.
The panel's responsibility was to conduct a hearing to determine if certain team members breached Hockey Canada's code of conduct and, if so, recommend appropriate sanctions.
With the hearing concluded, the panel has submitted its final adjudicative report to all involved parties. However, a notice of appeal has been filed, following the procedures outlined in Hockey Canada's Investigation and Adjudication Procedures.
Anticipating the commencement of the appeal process soon, Hockey Canada clarified that, due to the in-camera nature of the proceedings, the details of the report, including its findings, cannot be disclosed at this time. This precaution is taken to uphold the integrity of the appeal process and avoid interference.
