Former Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask saw what was coming to the franchise almost exactly a year ago today.

A tweet from June 9th, 2021 from Bruins media member Ty Anderson (@_TyAnderson) has resurfaced, which reads:

Rask: "We're all getting older and it's not going to last forever."

And he wasn't wrong. Zdeno Chara was already on a new NHL team, David Krejci left for his home country Czechia, Bruce Cassidy was fired and now it's a possibility that Patrice Bergeron could retire this summer.

It may have been easy to predict because most NHL franchise's championship windows close at a certain point, bringing up must-needed rebuilds. However, the Bruins still have the pieces to contend if the general manager makes the right moves.

Just look at the Lightning, GM Julien BrisBois has kept Tampa's championship window open for how many years now. The team has won back-to-back Cups and they're still in the hunt to three-peat this season.

It's possible to stay contenders, but you have to be willing to give up high draft picks to get players that will help you now. Sweeney has not done that and that's why the Bruins may be forced into a complete rebuild of the franchise, right now or in the near future.
