The Boston Bruins' unexpected elimination in the first round at the hands of the Florida Panthers was undoubtedly a disappointment. However, spare a thought for Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy, who could have faced his former team in the Stanley Cup final.

Alas, the Panthers dashed that possibility by upsetting the league-leading Bruins in a grueling seven-game series, subsequently advancing to the championship final against Cassidy's Knights. Speaking to Jesse Granger of The Athletic, Cassidy candidly shared his emotions about his former team's playoff exit.

His primary concern was shielding his children, Cole and Shannon, from any potential criticism they might have faced had the Bruins advanced. Cassidy never expressed joy at their elimination, but he certainly felt a sense of relief.

"I can handle it," Cassidy assured Granger, acknowledging his resilience. "But what concerned me most was our connection to Cape Cod, where we have a cherished summer home. We have deep roots there, having spent 15 years working for the Bruins, and our kids were born there. After their playoffs loss, I felt a weight lifted knowing my children wouldn't have to endure remarks like, 'Your dad could have done better,' which kids are prone to saying."

It's clear that Cassidy's top priority is the happiness of his children. He emphasized,

"Every day, I think about my kids. Their joy is my joy, and their sorrow is my sorrow. From that standpoint, I was undeniably relievedfor them."

Now, Cassidy's sole focus is etching his name on the coveted Stanley Cup. As the championship series against the Panthers heads to Florida with the Golden Knights leading 2-0, Cassidy's children eagerly follow his journey and revel in the excitement.

"They understand the pressures that come with this pursuit and the potential disappointment if things don't go our way," Cassidy revealed. "They have witnessed and lived through seasons that concluded without lifting the Cup, observing their father's heartache. But ultimately, they remain unwavering supporters of their dad and the Golden Knights, standing as the team's most fervent fans. They are ready for whatever comes our way."

Undoubtedly, with the Bruins out of the picture, the path ahead seems somewhat smoother for Cassidy and his children.
