On this day, the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers completed an absurd trade involving Kay Whitmore.

Kay Whitmore signed with the Boston Bruins in the summer of 1999, and would promptly be sent down to the Providence Bruins of the AHL.

6 months later, it seemed his time was at an end in Boston, as they would trade Whitmore from Boston to Edmonton.

In return, Boston would receive "Future Considerations" who isn't so present in trades as he used to be anymore.

While the Bruins received future considerations, the stranger part of all of this trade?

24 years ago today ON THIS DAY in hockey history (July 20, 2000):

The
@NHLBruins
acquire Kay Whitmore from the
@EdmontonOilers
for future considerations

Whitmore would stay in Providence, playing 43 more games for the Providence Bruins, with a record of 17-19-3 for the year. Whitmore would once again start in Providence in 2000-2001, going 13-8-2 and in December of 2000 the Oilers would trade him BACK to the Boston Bruins.

He would play in Boston, but only 5 games, going 1-2-0 during his time in the bigs.

Absurd is the entire name of this trade.

I advise you not to search for Whitmore in Oilers gear, the pics don't exist.
