In 2010, the Boston Bruins were facing the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals and held a 3-0 lead against them. All signs pointed to the Boston Bruins facing the Montreal Canadiens in the Conference Finals for a chance at the Stanley Cup.
Having a 3-0 lead on the Flyers the Bruins seemed like a lock to advance to the next round. That would be until they blew the next 4 games including game 7 where they would lose at home, and they would become the third team in NHL history to blow a 3-0 series lead.
After the disappointng playoff run, Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli wanted to make a move to bring in more goal scoring, and went out and completed a deal with the Florida Panthers to acquire Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell.
The Boston Bruins sent Dennis Wideman, their 2010 first-round pick, and 2011 third-round pick to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell.
Nathan Horton immedaitely made an impact on the Boston Bruins roster, and that year the Bruins would go on to win the Stanley Cup.
