Elliotte Friedman Revealed A Major Development In The Boston Bruins Trading Brad Marchand
Could we see the unthinkable this season as GM Don Sweeney would end up trading Bruins Captain Brad Marchand?
According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Boston Bruins could end up making major changes to their lineup.
One of those changes could end up being Bruins Captain Brad Marchand. Marchand has been a Bruins since the 2009 season and won a Cup in 2011.
He was a part of the core which took the team to the Stanley Cup finals in 2019, but was unable to finish the job.
Fast forward to Friday, when NHL insider Elliotte Friedman made a bold statement on his podcast "32 Thoughts" saying if the Bruins continue on a path towards not making the playoffs, that the team could look to deal their captain.
Now, it appears if the Bruins fail to make it into playoff contention, not seen since 2016 the team could end up moving Marchand according to Elliotte Friedman.
Marchand could end up being a rental on a Stanley Cup contending team, as his $6.125 million contract expires at the end of the season.
There's been no specific team who have been mentioned as suitors, but we could speculate that the team will be Stanley Cup contenders.
To this point, the Bruins have 56 points in 53 games, which is a .528 points percentage. To get to 91 points, they'd have to play at .603. To get to 96, they'd have to play at .689. Not impossible for a really good team, but the Bruins haven't been close to being a really good team.
Which would put him in the sphere, of the Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche, and the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Bruins are 5th in the Atlantic Division with a record of 25-22-6 with 56 points, since they're struggling to find their way into the playoffs they'll have to be sellers at the deadline in hopes a retool will solve their issues next season.
