According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Seattle Kraken are looking to make a change in their goaltending department this summer.
General Manager Ron Francis is reportedly attempting to trade 29-year-old goaltender Chris Driedger, who has one year left on his contract with a $3.5 million cap hit.
However, Driedger's modified no-trade clause, which includes a list of ten teams he prefers not to be traded to, could complicate a potential move.
Driedger, originally selected from the Florida Panthers in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft, played 29 games for the Kraken in their inaugural season, posting a 9-14-1 record with a 2.96 GAA, .899 save percentage, and one shutout.
He suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during the 2022 IIHF World Hockey Championship's Gold Medal Game, causing him to miss a significant portion of this past season. Driedger returned to action in February, playing 14 games for the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds.
The backup goaltending situation for Seattle next season remains uncertain, as Joey Daccord, Martin Jones, and Christopher Gibson are all set to become unrestricted free agents on July 1st.
