A report has emerged that Jacob Trouba had blocked a trade that was agreed upon between the New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings.

Emily Kaplan of ESPN broke the news that the deal was in place between the two teams and that Trouba who had his no movement clause reverted to a 15 no trade team trade chose to block the deal.

"There was a deal in place with the Red Wings, I am told, and Jacob used the power given to him in his contractand he earned itto block it, and that's within his rights," said Kaplan in an interview on TSN.

This move has shown how aggressive general manager Chris Drury of the Rangers has been as he has made it clear that he has no desire to run back his team the way it was this year even though it won a record 55 games in the regular season.

Trouba holds two more seasons with a $8 million cap hit, and the Rangers are looking for cap space to recuperate and to spend on different players that will help reconfigure the team to make them a better playoff team.

This was echoed by Elliotte Friedman of the 32 thoughts podcast when he felt that Trouba was extremely uncomfortable with the whole situation.

«The one thing I am reasonably certain of is that this whole situation that's developed over the last week or two has been hard on Trouba... The Rangers may have decided, for cap reasons, that they have to do this, but that doesn't mean that Trouba is ready for this."

It remains to be seen on what happened to Trouba but many feel including Kaplan that he will be a New York Ranger on game one of next season.
