It appears, their original six rivals have decided to re-sign Nick Robertson to a one-year $875K contract.
Robertson has been unhappy with his lack of playtime in Toronto, and many pundits were unsure when and if he'd sign with the Maple Leafs.
It appears that DailyFaceOff's Frank Seravalli believes that the Maple Leafs could still end up trading Robertson before the beginning of the NHL season.
Re-signing Robertson has made him easier to trade compared to him being an RFA.
Given how strong the Maple Leafs top-six is, and how he's had a lack of opportunities the last few seasons, Robertson would have to settle for a bottom-six role. He has shown he's got what it takes, playing 56 games with the Leafs, scoring 27 points( 14 G, 13 A) in that period.
With the Maple Leafs aiming to sign Max Pacioretty, Nick Robertson could be traded and the Bruins could acquire Nick Robertson for an affordable price.
While the salary cap is tight, he may have to give up some prospects in order to make the deal work on the money end.
They could consider sending depth players Vinni Letteri or Patrick Brown, as Mike Reilly's buyout is still on the books for this season at $1.3 Million.
