There have been a lot of rumours surrounding the Winnipeg Jets trading Rutger McGroarty, after he announced that he will not be re-signing with the Winnipeg Jets. It seemed like the Jets didn't hold much leverage, but the return they got was pretty solid considering.
The Boston Bruins were a team rumoured to have interest in him, but seems like they didn't have what it took to get a deal done
The Winnipeg Jets traded Rutger McGroarty to the Pittsburgh Penguins for their top prospect in Brayden Yager, who was also drafted 14th overall but a year after McGroarty.
McGroarty has a lot of upside and potential his only weakness is his skating, but at only 19 years old, he has a lot of time to develop this.
The last two seasons McGroarty spent playing at the University of Michigan where he would put up 34 goals and 57 assists.
For Brayden Yager, he has played his entire career in the WHL with the Warriors and has 104 goals, 146 assists, for 250 points in 211 games.
One big question mark that came with trading for McGroarty was if he was willing to sign with the team he was traded too. According to reports, McGroarty will sign his entry-level contract once the trade is complete.
