The Boston Bruins have surprisingly decent odds to win the Atlantic Division this year after having a terrible start to the year. They have a +1700 odds to win the Atlantic Division this year.
The Bruins made some big moves to try and fill the void of not having Patrice Bergeron in the off-season when they brought in Elias Lindholm, but the new roster additions haven't really clicked together.
Jim Montgomery was also fired by the Boston Bruins because the Bruins could not find their game. Jeremy Swayman has also been a reason why the Bruins have been struggling as he has not lived up to his massive contract he signed in the off-season.
Yet, somehow the Boston Bruins are only four points behind both the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Florida Panthers for the division lead.
If the Bruins want to win the Atlantic Division this is what they are going to need:
With how the Bruins have been playing recently, they are not going to be able to put multiple wins together if they don't play a more consistent game. The Bruins home-and-home against the Columbus Blue Jackets is a perfect example of this.
The Boston Bruins ended up losing the first game 6-2 after they had a terrible second period allowing the Blue Jackets to score three goals. The day after, the Bruins were refacing the Blue Jackets when they dominated them in a 4-0 win.
Another thing the Bruins are going to need is some scoring help up front. The Bruins thought that bringing in Elias Lindholm in the off-season, would help David Pastrnak get back to scoring goals regularly like he did during his 62-goal season in the 2022-23 season.
Pastrnak is only on pace for 30 goals this season, which would be his worst scoring season since his second year in the NHL 10 years ago. Elias Lindholm has not helped as he has only scored six goals, with 13 assists on the season.
The Bruins need to bring in a true goal scorer at the trade deadline, and the only two realistic options are JT Miller, and Chris Kreider. The Bruins will have to give up some big value to acquire one of these players, but the Bruins desperately need it.
Something else the Bruins are going to need is Jeremy Swayman to return to his form from last year. His record is terrible, having a 13-11-3 record. This just isnt going to cut it for the Bruins and neither is his 2.90 goals against average, and his .891 save percentage.
The Bruins may have to give Joonas Korpisalo more starts as he has been really good for the Bruins.
