A Major Announcement Was Just Made Regarding The Bruins Playing In An Outdoor Game
The Boston Bruins haven't seen an outdoor game since the 2023 Winter Classic. There are rumors swirling, that they could be considered for the 2026 outdoor game.
In 2026 there's talk that the next host of the Winter Classic could be none other than the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers.
The "unusual" part of the game? It could be an outdoor game, that will be hosted in Miami.
According to reports, it's on the table. Florida Hockey Now reported earlier this week the Florida Panthers are likely to host an outdoor game next season at LoanDepot Park, home of MLB's Miami Marlins.M
However, Miami certainly would fit the criteria laid out by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who said in Chicago for this year's Winter Classic that the next location would be «unusual,» «unique» and would leave «some people (thinking) we've lost our minds.»
The Florida Panthers are one NHL team that hasn't played in an outdoor game or a stadium series event for the league.
While the opponent is still being discussed, two teams have arisen out of the rumors, one of them being the rival Boston Bruins an original-six team the Cats would face.
The Bruins themselves are no strangers to outdoor games, and played the Winter Classic in 2023 at Fenway Park, and one "unusual" game saw them play in Lake Tahoe in 2021.
They've faced off against the Chicago Blackhawks in 2019, and have yet to face a rival like the Panthers in this setting.
The event would be one of a kind for sure, especially for Sunrise which typically gets too hot for a game like this.
The Bruins record in the Winter Classic is impressive, as they've got a 3-1 record: Philadelphia Flyers(2010), Montreal Canadiens(2016), Chicago Blackhawks(2019), and the Pittsburgh Penguins(2023).
An outdoor game in Florida might seem a little crazy, but there is precedent. Dodger Stadium hosted a Stadium Series game in 2014, in addition to outdoor games in Santa Clara, Texas and Nashville. With high temperatures Thursday in Miami forecast for 75 degrees, LoanDepot Park's retractable roof could come in handy.
It would be exciting to see the B's get another chance to revisit the nostalgic era of old-time hockey, in a new place like Miami.
