The Boston Bruins gave Oskar Steen permission to seek a new contract with other teams in the NHL. His focus wasn't on returning back to Europe, but as a result of the failed endeavor to find a new deal.

It was announced that the 26-year-old forward has signed a deal in the SHL with to a five-year contract.

The former Boston Bruins prospect was a sixth-round pick in 2016 and spent three seasons in the SHL prior to his arrival in the NHL during the 2019-2020 season.

Steen would see NHL action during 2020-2021, but would get longer looks in the following years, playing 20 games in with the Bruins. While in the AHL, scoring 35 points in 49 games.

He would earn a one-year, two-way deal with the Bruins and would see him in the mix with the Bruins in 2022-2023, but ironically would clear waivers twice that season, even with getting 34 games of NHL action.

He was more productive in the AHL, but even with 12 goals in 25 games, the Bruins would let him walk to free agency, in Group 6.

It's likely that with this contract, he won't see possible NHL action until age 31, so it'd be difficult to see him generate interest from the NHL, unless he becomes a top scorer in the SHL.

If this ends his NHL career, he has played in 60 NHL games, scoring 4 points.
