Will they have to consider trading Jeremy Swayman? His rights are under the Bruins' control since he can't just walk away from the team. Don Sweeney could right the ship, by moving the goalie for assets.
One team with plenty of assets to trade is the Philadelphia Flyers and GM Danny Briere.
DailyFaceoff's Frank Seravalli is here to pour gasoline on the fire, as he speculates that they're the team who could swing for the fences, to bring Swayman into the fold.
The Flyers have a deep prospect pool, and the salary cap space to absorb the cap hit, which the Bruins seem to have a problem paying.
Of course, Swayman would be the new #1 in Philadelphia, over Samuel Ersson, and Ivan Fedotov. He'd also have to understand he's in a rebuild, and no longer contending for a Stanley Cup.
While Jeremy Swayman is technically unproven on the Stanley Cup level, as the Bruins have never won a cup with him in the net, he's a consistent playoff performer.
He's also a William Jennings Trophy winner, and could only bolster the net in Philadelphia.
However, the cost for the Philadelphia Flyers could exceed what they get in return with Swayman as they could mortgage their entire future for the star goalie.
At this point, it'll take proper risk assessment and asset management to predict which way Danny Briere will go.
He's never been afraid of making risky moves, such as drafting Matvei Michkov, but the Flyers goalie prospects, are some of the best in the NHL, and would they risk sending one of them to a conference rival?
Let alone would Don Sweeney and the Bruins be okay with sending Swayman to the Metropolitan Division, while eventually meeting them in the post-season?
It's hard to tell.
Swayman, recorded a 25-10-8 record, with a 2.53 GAA, and a .916 save percentage in 2023-2024.
