Chad Demers a former college hockey player tragically passed away at the age of 33
Tragic news has struck the hockey community once again, as a former college hockey player has passed away at the young age of 33.
The hockey community has seen a lot of deaths and tragic news recently, and these are never reports you want to make. Chad Demers a former college hockey player has passed away, following reports.
Hockey World Wide reported on instagram that the former NCAA hockey player Chad Demers passed away after losing a six year battle to cancer at such a young age. He was only 33.
Chad was so much more than a coach for us, Augustana head coach Garrett Raboin said. He was a brother, a husband, a father. Those are the things that were most important to him. He just cherished his wife and kids. That's what makes this so hard.
Back in 2018, Chad Demers was diagnosed with brain cancer, but remained involved in hockey, the thing he loved the most, while fighting the fight of his life.
In 2023 Demers took an assistant coach job with a division one school, Augustana University.
When something like this happens in the hockey community, they always find a way to rally together.
Chad was one of my best friends for over 30 years, childhood friend Kody Stark said. Through all of his struggles the past six years, he still always asked me how I was doing, how my family was. It was never about him. Everything was for the people he loved. You won't find one teammate, player he coached - or coach he coached with - that wouldn't say he was the smartest hockey mind in the room, even with his illness. He was the greatest Spoiler of all-time. I'll remember him always
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Demers' friends, family, wife, and kids as they navigate through this tough time.
