After an embarrassing loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, the Boston Bruins needed to clear their head and just focus on hosting the Calgary Flames in TD Garden on Thursday, and they did just that.
The Bruins went out and won a gutsy game against the Flames, beating them 4-3 in overtime, after nearly blowing a 2 goal lead in the third period giving them a record of 7-7-1 on the season now.
Jim Montgomery made some more changes to the Bruins lines heading into this game, but it seemed to workout for the Bruins this time.
David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha were runited once again on the top line, and they surprisingly promoted new signee Tyler Johnson to play on the top line as well. They seemed to play well together as both Pastrnak and Zacha recorded multiple points for the Bruins, but Johnson was held off the score sheet once again.
Charlie Coyle's play has been subpar for the Boston Bruins, and because of that, Jim Montgomery has demoted him down to the third line where he would play with Cole Koepke, and Matthew Poitras. This line would end up giving the Bruins their 3-1 lead though, as Coyle connected with Koepke for his fourth goal of the year.
The Bruins nearly blew it in the third giving up two unanswered goals scored by Yegor Sharangovich and Nazem Kadri to force overtime.
No one else better to call the game then the captain who scored his 79th game-winning goal which would put him third in franchise history, just behind Johnny Bucyk and Patrice Bergeron.
Now the Bruins are looking forward to Saturday when they face former Bruin Linus Ullmark for the first time since he was traded to the Ottawa Senators during the off-season.
