The Boston Bruins under Jim Montgomery were a dismal 8-9-1 and had a terrible goal differential in the NHL. A whopping -12, a statistic no coach in the league would want to be associated with his name.

Montgomery would be fired, and Joe Sacco would be named interim Head Coach for the Bruins.

«I just try in small increments,» Sacco told reporters, per team-provided audio. «We try as a staff to help the team get better every day. We talked about getting back to an identity that we wanted to get back to. It's about the process. I know it's cliché, but it really is

Since he took over behind the bench, the Bruins are playing with purpose, and have a 6-2-0 record under his leadership.

Another stat that has changed under Sacco for the better, is the Bruins goal differential which has changed significantly according to Scott McLaughlin of the Skate Pod.

Another fun fact since Sacco that should give you hope as a Bruins fan.

Boston's defense has shaped up better in recent games and the offense that could not find any way to put the puck in the net has suddenly racked up 20 goals in a five-game stretch. The Bruins are finding their style of play again, though Sacco knows there's a long journey ahead in that mission.

The Bruins offense is chugging again, scoring at about 4 goals per game under Sacco.

This explains the complete 180 in play that Jim Montgomery couldn't get out any Bruins players.

«We're getting there,» Sacco added. «There's still spurts and moments during the game. It's never going to be perfect. We all know that. There's moments and spurts during the game where I think we can do things a little bit better. Manage the game. Overall, I really like the direction we're going.»

While he has a cliche statement about "trusting the process" it is true when you implement, and buy into a system, it works.

It's been a significant turnaround with Sacco leading the way, and could a good season with him as interim coach, lead to Sweeney removing the "Interim" tag?

For now, we'll have to be patient and appreciate the course correction that Sacco has laid out for the Bruins.
