Elliotte Friedman just confirmed whether or not the Boston Bruins are acquiring Daniel Sprong for free off of waivers.
Yesterday, the Boston Bruins were given an opportunity to claim depth forward Daniel Sprong off of waivers from the Seattle Kraken.
The Boston Bruins have needed goal-scoring help all season, and one of those players has just become available as the Seattle Kraken waived him.
Daniel Sprong has spent the last two seasons in Vancouver, and Detroit as a depth forward who has a great shot.
In 2022-2023, and 2023-2024 he had consecutive 40+ point seasons in Seattle and Detroit.
Yet this season he's been unable to crack the full-time lineup in both Vancouver, and Seattle. GM Ron Francis placed him on waivers yesterday, and he could be an affordable goal-scoring option for the B's.
Sprong signed a one-year contract in Vancouver with an AAV of $975K and could easily fit under the Bruins' salary cap at the moment.
Not to mention, Sprong has been one of the NHL's most efficient scorers in the league.
Sprong's NHL career, which is now in its eighth season and fifth team, has featured 83 career goals in 328 games. He's averaged 2.15 shots on goal per game for his career, despite effectively playing fourth-line minutes his entire career.
While he may be in a downturn, a fresh start with a club that could utilize his talents might not hurt.
The Bruins don't have the kind of depth they need in the lineup to outscore opponents, as evidence in their previous game against the Edmonton Oilers when they were shutout 4-0.
This season Sprong has played 19 games, and scored 5 points( 2 G, 3 A), and he hasn't played to the potential we've seen him the last two seasons of his career.
