The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tyler Bertuzzi have started to talk about a contract extension.
Tyler Bertuzzi is a UFA and will have all the say in where he wants to go and how much he will get on his next deal. Bertuzzi probably won't get the biggest pay day if he wants to sign with a contender, but will still have some say in what he gets.
David Pagnotta reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tyler Bertuzzi have begun talking about getting an extension done with Bertuzzi's representatives. According to Pagnotta the talks are still early, which doesn't mean he will sign there but for Leafs fans this is a good sign that he is interested in possibly sticking around.
Tyler Bertuzzi signed a prove it deal with the Maple Leafs last summer when he signed a one-year $5.5 million deal, and he will more than likely be looking for a long-term lower contract or a short-term big pay contract.
Early into the season Tyler Bertuzzi struggled to find his game, but as time went on and he got use to the Leafs system he finally started to produce for them and finished the season with 43 points in 80 regular season games.
