Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand has denied the rumour that the Boston Bruins are close to extending him.

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand recently addressed a rumor that he was nearing a three-year contract extension with the Bruins, denying the report that had first been shared by Elliotte Friedman during Saturday Headlines.

The timing of the report made sense, as Marchand had just delivered one of his strongest performances this season, scoring his first goal-an overtime winner-and adding an assist. However, when asked directly after the game about the rumor, Marchand was quick to shut it down. Given his history of joking around with reporters, some wondered if he might just be having fun with the media.

Even Friedman acknowledged Marchand's denial, which suggests the deal isn't imminent. However, surprises are common in the NHL, and it wouldn't be shocking if the Bruins did announce an extension soon.

Interestingly, the conversation around Marchand's relationship with the Bruins has changed quickly. Earlier this week, there was talk about possible tension between Marchand and head coach Jim Montgomery after Montgomery's critical in-game comments.

But Marchand publicly defended his coach, calling it "unfortunate" how much scrutiny coaches face. Now, it's Marchand himself in the spotlight with these contract extension rumors swirling.

For now, we'll have to wait and see if Marchand's denial is the final word, or if the Bruins and Marchand are indeed working toward a deal. Hopefully, we'll get some clarity soon.
