Fast forward to Tuesday, with Patrice Bergeron's retirement in July leaving the team captain-less, Marchand was the one leading the practice at Warrior Ice Arena.
He's now fully recovered and one of the Bruins' key leaders.
Getting back to the ice, Marchand expressed his relief, saying,
Last season, the 35-year-old winger made an early return to the lineup, admitting that he might have rushed his recovery, but he's eager to get back in the game.
He noted,
Marchand had an impressive season, tallying 21 goals and 46 assists for a total of 67 points in 73 games. It marked his 10th consecutive season with 20 or more goals.
Notably, this season will be different for Marchand, as he'll have a new center for the first time in 12 years.
The specific roles of the first and second-line centers are yet to be determined, but Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha seem like the top choices.
The Bruins' training camp is set to kick off on September 20, with veterans and prospects all vying for a spot on the roster, eager to play alongside Marchand and the rest of the team.
Danton Heinen, who signed a professional tryout on Tuesday, is among those looking to make their mark.
