Former Boston Bruins assistant coach John Gruden has been appointed as the new head coach of the Toronto Marlies in the AHL, announced by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Gruden, 53, previously served as an assistant coach for the Bruins in the past and held the same position with the New York Islanders.

«We're very pleased to name John as the head coach of the Toronto Marlies,» said Ryan Hardy, Maple Leafs Assistant General Manager, Minor League Operations, in a press release. «John has supported the development and performance of his players throughout his coaching career while delivering team success at every level. His resume from the U.S. National Team Development Program to the OHL and eventually the NHL has armed him with a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be invaluable to both players and staff.»

He has an impressive coaching history, having led the Hamilton Bulldogs to the 2018 OHL Championship and served as head coach for the Flint Firebirds during the 2015-16 OHL season. Gruden's extensive experience and knowledge gained from coaching at various levels will benefit both players and staff.

The Bruins expressed gratitude and wished Gruden success in his new role with the Marlies.
