Saddened News Hits an Ex-Boston Bruins Forward
Swedish forward Carl Soderberg has retired after an illustrious 20-season hockey career, including nine in the NHL. He cherished memories of his almost 600 NHL games, winning the 2017 World Championship gold and starting his career with Malmö in 2006.
"I knew even then that it was my last match, but I still wanted to let it grow during the summer," Soderberg said about his final game with Malmo in March.
"I have been involved in a lot. Almost 600 NHL games and that whole NHL journey was amazing. All the memories you created and all the people, both players and leaders. I wouldn't trade that for anything. Then the WC gold in Cologne 2017 was the biggest thing I was able to win. Getting to go up with Malmö in 2006 was also a win in itself. It was right at the beginning of my career, so it was very big."
Originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in 2004, Soderberg later joined the Boston Bruins in 2013. He played 597 NHL games, contributing 297 points, before finishing his last two seasons with the Malmo Redhawks in Sweden. Congratulations to Soderberg on an outstanding career and best wishes in retirement!
