According to an NHL executive source, Sweeney's been busy on the phones throughout the weekend, recognizing Lohrei's impressive performance in training camp and the preseason. The source said,
This urgency was evident when Sweeney and Neely swiftly exited the stage at the team's Media Day on Monday morning. But before they left, Sweeney shared an update on Lohrei's roster status, mentioning that there's one more decision to make before opening night.
Sweeney has been exploring the trade market for veteran defensemen Derek Forbort and Matt Grzelcyk. One NHL pro scout even noted interest in Grzelcyk due to his offensive capabilities. However, the fate of Forbort remains uncertain.
For Mason Lohrei, the young defenseman, despite having his Providence Bruins gear ready, confirmed that he was still part of the NHL roster. Expressing his desire to play in the league and for the Bruins, Lohrei acknowledged that the decision ultimately hinges on salary cap considerations.
