Sweeney has had his struggles when it comes to drafting (2015), but one thing he has done well, is icing a competitive team for veterans like Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Brad Marchand.
And that's maybe never been more evident than this season by looking at what Sweeney has traded in and out of Boston over the past two seasons.
OUT:
Erik Haula
Ryan Donato
Craig Smith
Anders Bjork
Urho Vaakanainen
John Moore
Three first-rounders
Eight additional picks
IN
Charlie Coyle
Taylor Hall
Hampus Lindholm
Pavel Zacha
Dmitry Orlov
Garnet Hathaway
Tyler Bertuzzi
Besides Craig Smith - who was healthy scratched multiple times this season - and Erik Haula, none of those other players would make the Bruins' current roster.
While every player he has acquired is a top six player or top four defenseman, while Coyle and Hathaway are the players you need in the bottom six. All have signed substantial extensions to stay in Boston, as well.
This season, in particular, Sweeney managed to retain all of his top prospects, ensuring that the future of the team's system appears promising
