Today is Charlie McAvoy's birthday, and to celebrate, the Bruins put out a happy birthday post on X.
Charlie McAvoy turns 27 today and was drafted 14th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft. He had a good season at Boston University of the NCAA and then played a few games for the Providence Bruins the year after he was drafted and stunned there.
The second year after he got drafted, he played his first season with Boston. During that season, McAvoy had 32 points in 63 games with a +20, showing that he's a rising star and proving why he was a front-end first-round draft pick.
Last year, he had 47 points in 74 games with a +4. This season so far, he has five goals and nine assists for 14 points in 34 games with a +5. Charlie has been a + player his whole career. However, he hasn't had a fully-played 82-game season yet.
Charlie has a lot of playoff experience, and he performs well, having 48 points in 92 games, although he has a -5. He even made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, where the Bruins lost to the St Louis Blues in seven games.
It's been amazing to see McAvoy not only grow as a player, but as a person, these last few years, as he's only 27. He still has a lot of hockey left in him too. McAvoy has five years left on his contract and will be on the team until he is 32 years old.
Hopefully, McAvoy keeps up his good defensive play, and even re-signs with the Bruins after this current tenure.
Happy Birthday, Charlie!
