Bruins Player Set To Get Massive Promotion Following Recent Statement
Returning to Boston after Team Canada's quarterfinal exit at the IIHF World Junior Championship, Matthew Poitras didn't immediately jump back into the Bruins' lineup against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.
The Bruins opted to give the rookie some time to readjust after his stint in Sweden for the competition.
After patiently acclimating, Poitras made a notable impact in the Bruins' explosive 7-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night.
Expressing his satisfaction, Poitras told reporters post-game,
"I felt good today, and the legs felt good. I felt I played a pretty good game. I had the puck and made some good decisions."
In 11:01 minutes of ice time across 16 shifts, Poitras contributed with two assists, showcasing his skills and adaptability.
Coach Jim Montgomery praised Poitras' performance, saying,
"I thought he was really good. He looked fresh. He was making plays. I wish we could have got him out there (more)."
Montgomery expressed anticipation for upcoming games where Poitras can be utilized more extensively, particularly in matchups with four lines.
Reflecting on his experience representing Canada at the World Juniors, Poitras acknowledged the disappointment in the outcome but expressed gratitude for the opportunity.
"It was still an awesome experience,"
he added.
"It definitely felt like a good reset. It kind of felt like getting those jitters like your first game again a lot of excitement."
However, Poitras' time at home was brief. The Bruins embarked on a four-game road trip, starting in Colorado on Monday night to face the Avalanche at Ball Arena. The stage is set for Poitras to continue making an impact as the Bruins hit the road.
