Calgary Flames Take Next Step In Trade With Boston Bruins To Acquire $24M Defenseman

Unlike the Boston Bruins the Calgary Flames have a shot at the playoffs this season and GM Craig Conroy could be a major buyer beforehand. While they have no intention of rebuilding they need to build on the core they have, and Brandon Carlo could be a solution for the team.
To strengthen their lineup they need someone to bolster the blue line, and that could be Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo.
Carlo is a shutdown defenseman in the NHL and could be used to shelter an offensive defenseman or a developing player in the league.
According to Anthony Di Marco, the Flames have been in contact with the Bruins about Carlo but the materialization for a trade hasn't developed beyond a simple discussion.
It seems like there aren't too many untouchables in Boston, so Carlo would definitely fall into the category of players that may be traded in what seems like a write-off year.
The Flames are in the midst of trying to move players out of the top four and improve upon Joel Hanley and Daniil Miramonov.
Miromanov could easily be a piece heading back to the Bruins to get some playing time and fill a roster spot for this season. He has another year left at $1.25 million AAV and shoots right, just like Carlo.
If the Bruins do trade Carlo to the Flames, the team could pair him with Mackenzie Weeger, and shift him to the left side.
Carlo could shelter Weegar and give him the flexibility to play his game and contribute on both sides of the puck.
Carlo has an eight-team modified no-trade clause and has two years left on his deal at $4.1 million AAV.
Carlo would be a significant upgrade to a young defensive core that hasn't been tested down the stretch, unlike the Bruins veteran.
