As an arbitration eligible restricted free agent, Frederic eagerly awaits a qualifying offer from the Bruins, which must be submitted by June 30. After an impressive season that saw him achieve career-high numbers in goals (17), assists (14), and points (31) across 79 games, Frederic's salary is expected to rise from his previous $1.05 million cap hit.
During a recent media interaction, Frederic revealed that his agent, Allain Roy, has already engaged in discussions with Bruins' general manager, Don Sweeney, regarding a potential new contract. Expressing his desire to continue his tenure with the Bruins, the young forward stated,
If the veteran center Tomas Nosek, currently with the Boston Bruins, enters the unrestricted free agent market as anticipated on July 1, Frederic is not only expected to secure a new contract with the team but also to assume the role of fourth-line center. In response to a question about potentially playing at his natural position on a full-time basis next season, Frederic expressed enthusiasm, saying, "That would be awesome. That's been my position my whole life until I got here."
Should the team's captain Patrice Bergeron and veteran center David Krejci opt not to return, Frederic could find himself with an opportunity to solidify the 3C slot, as Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha ascend the center depth chart. While the Bruins are actively exploring the NHL trade market for center help, their limited salary cap situation makes it unlikely for them to acquire one through unrestricted free agency. As a result, much of the responsibility will fall on Frederic's shoulders to elevate his game and fulfill a pivotal role in the middle of the ice.
