This could be an opening for the Boston Bruins to add to their assets or get another middle-six or bottom-six forward for the team.
Evander Kane will be out of the lineup until the New Year, due to surgery for a sports hernia. The Oilers will need more help on the top six, with Kane missing a significant amount of time.
With the Boston Bruins and other NHL rosters fired up for training camp, there will be many forwards in the lineup fighting for a spot in the lineup. This could make, a forward like Morgan Geekie, who has finally shown some upside in Boston, after stints in Carolina and Seattle, could be a trade piece for the Bruins.
While the Bruins do have a decent amount of salary cap space with $8.6 Million, they still need to sign Jeremy Swayman.
Moving Geekie could kill two birds with one stone, as he could free up $2 Million dollars in cap space.
The Oilers could use someone like Geekie who broke out in 2023-2024, playing a role in the top six during the season.
Not only that, but Geekie scored 39 points( 17 G, 22 A) in 76 games under Jim Montgomery's system.
While Geekie isn't the prototypical power-forward that the Oilers get out of Evander Kane, he could be an affordable replacement, as he will be out on IR for the time being.
Also, if Don Sweeney is smart, he could use the trade to add to the Bruins' draft capital or a way to add to the prospect pool, now that Geekie has some trade value.
