Biron mentioned that Minnesota Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson and Bruins' Jeremy Swayman are both set to become restricted free agents.
Swayman, a 24-year-old Alaskan native, will complete the final year of his entry-level contract on July 1st, 2023. NHL contract projection websites, like AFP Analytics, estimate a range of $3 million to $4 million per season for a potential bridge contract to retain the young prodigy.
Given Boston's salary cap constraints for the upcoming 2023-24 season, Biron believes that any team in need of goaltending could make an offer to Swayman. The Bruins currently have Linus Ullmark, who is rumored to be on the move to free up cap space before the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
Biron suggests that Swayman could receive an offer sheet of up to $6 million for one season, potentially luring him away from the Bruins if he prioritizes a lucrative contract. If Boston decides not to match the offer, Biron speculates that the Bruins could secure a first-round selection in this year's NHL Draft and receive a third-round pick as compensation.
Swayman boasts an impressive record in his 88 career NHL regular season games, with a 54-23-7 record and a 2.24 goals-against average. With the draft and free agency looming, Biron suggests that the Bruins might be under pressure to negotiate a deal with Swayman before an offer sheet is presented.
If Swayman were to decide to file for arbitration he would not be able to sign an offer sheet.
