Former NHL first overall pick Bryan Berard, 46, made headlines after being arrested following a bar incident in Newport, Rhode Island, where he currently resides.

The altercation, captured on video, involved Berard and another man, with the latter pushing him from behind. Berard retaliated by grabbing the man's shirt, leading to the police intervention.

The man was reportedly unaware of Berard's identity, and Berard claims he mistook the officer trying to arrest him due to an eye injury he sustained during his playing days.

Berard, known for his career with multiple NHL teams, he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Islanders, is now facing charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Despite the incident, Berard maintains that it was a misunderstanding and remains optimistic that the charges will be dropped. The court date is set for August 9th.

However, this is not the first time Berard has faced controversy during his career, having tested positive for anabolic steroids in 2006, which resulted in a two-year ban from international play.
