Six days ago, the Boston Bruins fired Jim Montgomery, and five days after being fired Montgomery landed a new head coaching position with the St. Louis Blues, and he's already making the Bruins regret their decision.
The St. Louis Blues did what the Bruins couldn't with Montgomery this year, and that's finding out how to close out games, and another thing was finding how to score goals in the third period. The Boston Bruins blew multiple multi goal games against teams this year, and have had a real hard time trying to score goals in the third period, and were one of the worst third period teams in the league.
The Blues were tied 2-2 against the power house of the New York Rangers, that's when the team came out in the third period and scored three different goals to lead them to a 5-2 win against one of the top teams in the league. This is something the Boston Bruins really struggled with.
During the Boston Bruins last game with Montgomery as their head coach the Bruins ended up with just one goal in a 5-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
This loss would ultimately lead to Jim Montgomery's firing.
The power play went scoreless, but the Blues ended up throwing more hits, along with outshooting the Rangers, something the Bruins never did. The Bruins outshot the Rangers 43-29.
Wednesday night Jim Montgomery will look to get his team to a perfect 2-0 record as they face off against the New Jersey Devils.
