Jim Montgomery reveals his biggest concern regarding the Bruins rough start to the 2024-25 season
Jim Montgomery recently opened up regarding his biggest concern from the Bruins rough start to the 2024-25 season.
Six games into the season, and the Bruins aren't in the spot they thought they would be, holding a 3-2-1 record, especially considering in the last two seasons Jim Montgomery has gone 11-1-0 in his first six games to start the season, but Montgomery stated he isn't overly concerned with the record.
«In the last couple of years, we've gotten off to great starts, and we played fast,» Montgomery told reporters in Utah, per team-provided video. «I don't like the pace we're currently playing with.
«Being 3-2-1 at the start of the year; look around the league, that's fine. The record, I'm not worried about. Results, I'm not worried about right now. It's the process and the process is not consistently to our desires right now.»
Jim Montgomery is more concerened about the play of some of his big players in the top-six group. Pavel Zacha, Elias Lindholm, and David Pastrnak have combined for 12 points, and for a top line, they aren't even close to being as dominant as you would expect.
The second line has been struggling as well, they have a combined 6 points with Brad Marchand leading the team in assists. Charlie Coyle has done nothing so far with the Bruins this year, only having 1 assist on the year, and Justin Brazeau who was recently promoted to that second line has 1 assist as well.
The fourth line has been the Bruins best line so far this year with Mark Kastelic, Johnny Beecher, and Cole Koepke. Montgomery revealed that he will not be breaking that line up, but instead may be giving them more playing time as a result to the production they have been giving the Bruins.
«I'm keeping the line together,» Montgomery said. «Maybe I just got to start playing them like 16 minutes a night instead of 12 like I have.»
Montgomery revealed the thing he is more concerned about is the lack of level of engagement from his forwards.
«I'm not happy with the puck pressure, especially,» he said. «We've always got to be committed to checking and right now, I'm not seeing it.»
