A Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) game took a shocking turn when a player suffered a serious facial injury after being accidentally cut by an opponent's skate. The chaotic moment unfolded after another player had already been injured by a puck hitting him in the face.
The incident began with a shot hitting one of HC Sochi's players in the head, but the real damage came moments later when Danil Mokrushev found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
As players scrambled in front of the net, Mokrushev fell and was struck by the skate of a CSKA Moscow player. The skate blade sliced the bottom of his face and hit him in the teeth, leaving him with a nasty injury.
A replay of the incident, shared by Hockey New Hub, shows just how dangerous the situation was. Thankfully, Mokrushev was later photographed in the locker room, holding ice to his face and giving a thumbs up, reassuring fans that he was okay.
However, the damage was severe, and it's likely he'll have a noticeable scar from the cut.
After receiving medical attention, Mokrushev posed for another picture, showing off a "hockey smile" that has become a common symbol of toughness in the sport.
