Last year, former Bruins defenseman spent all of the year in the American Hockey League, appearing in 31 games for the Providence Bruins, and 15 for the Cleveland Monsters. In the combined 46 games he appeared in he ended up with 0 goals, and 13 assists.
Zboril opted to sign a PTO during training camp with the New Jersey Devils this year, and would appear in four preseason games for the Devils, but ultimately he wasn't offered a contract.
HC Dynamo Pardubice of the Czech Extraliga has just announced that Zboril will be heading overseas, to play professional hockey back home. The announcement revealed that Zboril has signed through the 2028-29 season.
Jakub Zboril had a lot of promise, especially after the Boston Bruins ended up drafting him 13th overall in the first-round in the infamous 2015 NHL Entry Level Draft. Zboril was a really good two-way defender at the major junior level but couldn't live up to the hype in the NHL unfortunately.
While Zboril was with the Boston Bruins organization for 8 years, he spent three full years in the AHL, and across 5 years he would see 76 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, playing a depth roll. Injuries would play a big part, but in those 76 NHL games he saw he only had one goal, along with 15 assists across 15:38 of ice time per game.
Considering Zboril did not gain a NHL contract out of his professional tryout contract, he more then likely was offered multiple offers in the American Hockey League, but at that point you might as well just go back home and play professional hockey there.
The chances of Zboril returning to North America is unlikely after he just signed a five-year deal in his home country.
