Major announcement made involving Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand
The Boston Bruins have $20 Million of salary cap space to play with during the off-season.
And newly minted Captain Brad Marchand is due a new contract soon, as his current 8-year, $6.125 Million AAV contract will expire in 2024-2025.
Rather than losing the Captain to free agency, the team needs to keep Marchand and his offensive capabilities in Boston.
Marchand is near the end of his prime, supposedly at age 36 the team has injuries to worry about. But given Marchand's dedication to training, the risk should be averted.
Marchand has also been a consistent producer, as he hasn't had a season under 50+ since 2014-2015.
In 2023-2024 he played 82 games during the regular season, scoring 67 points( 29 G, 38 A) his 2nd season scoring 67 points.
Consistency.
A new contract for Marchand is projected by The Athletic's Fluto Shinzawa, at 2 years for $10 Million, resulting in $5.0 Million AAV.
This is another team-friendly contract, which Marchand isn't a stranger to as many Bruins have taken pay cuts to stay on the team and keep the winning culture in Boston.
