Today's game against the Canadiens could see the return of Bruins' defenders Brandon Carlo and Derek Forbort, who have been sidelined due to injuries. Joe Haggerty of the Boston Sports Journal reports that Carlo, currently on IR, and Forbort, on LTIR, may make a comeback after missing five and 20 games, respectively.

With 22 players on the active roster, the Bruins need to make room for both players by assigning at least one player to AHL Providence to stay within the 23-player limit.

Carlo has been a standout performer this season, forming a strong defensive pairing with Hampus Lindholm and solidifying his role as a top-four shutdown defenseman. Despite starting 76% of his even-strength shifts in the defensive zone, Carlo maintains an even expected plus-minus rating with a 2-810 stat line in 39 games.

Forbort, 31, has a more limited role, averaging 18:22 of ice time per game. While contributing four assists in 20 games, his even-strength possession numbers have declined to a Corsi share of 43.5% in 2023-24. Known for his penalty-killing skills, Forbort has graded below average this season. His $3 million cap-hit contract expires at the end of this season.

As the Bruins prepare for the game, the potential return of Carlo and Forbort adds excitement and speculation to the team's defensive lineup. Fans eagerly await the impact these players may bring to the ice.
