Matthew Poitras played 33 games for the Boston Bruins in 2023-2024 and scored only 15 points( 5 G, 10 A).

During that time period, he would center Morgan Geekie and Brad Marchand at the beginning of the NHL season.

«I haven't seen a lot of offensive five-on-five generation,» Montgomery said. «Small sample size. But I trust my eye behind the bench. I went and followed it up, and I see it on video. I just want to try something else to get a spark.»

Montgomery would trust his eye through 33 games, and after an unlucky shoulder injury in February would have season-ending surgery.

All the while, Montgomery did trust the eye test, but it looks like with the addition of Elias Lindholm into the ranks, Poitras will be demoted:

It looks as if DailyFaceOff shifts him down to the 3C centering Trent Frederic and Justin Brazeau.

«When he gets on the ice, he's a heck of a player,» Marchand said. «He definitely shows that he belongs here. The biggest thing will be his consistency and showing up every night. He's done that so far.»

It's unfortunate, as Poitras had a lot of promise until his injury. Will he be able to play his way back into the top of the lineup in 2024-2025?
