NHL Insider Calls Out The Boston Bruins For Controversial Move Involving Milan Lucic
The Boston Bruins are a legendary, original-six team, with a plethora of history behind the team, this decision places them in controversial cross-hairs. Placing Milan Lucic on the Quarter-Century team is a mistake according to this NHL Insider.
NHL Insider Shrukri Wrights has an opinion on the Boston Bruins "Quarter-Century" team, which is 99% full of non-controversial players.
The list includes who you'd expect, with David Krejci, David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, and Patrice Bergeron.
And one you'd least expect, despite him being a part of a Stanley Cup-winning squad, Milan Lucic.
Lucic while with the Bruins in his prime had 5 seasons above 30+ points. NHL Insider Shukri Wrights disputes the fact that Lucic belongs on the Quarter Century team considering his legal troubles.
"Milan Lucic will remain on indefinite leave from the organization for the remainder of the 2023-24 season," the team said in a statement. "The Boston Bruins organization supports Milan and his family as he continues his personal rehabilitation."
He's been on leave since 2023-2024 and is unlikely to rejoin an NHL roster even after the charges were dropped, proving he was neither guilty or innocent as it went to trial.
Considering how everything played out, it seems short-sighted not to consider this when choosing a team of this stature.
It seems, the NHL isn't exercising the proper ethics, or caution when it elevates someone like Lucic, even if he did contribute to a Stanley Cup victory.
In all honesty, GM Don Sweeney can find someone with this same timeframe who could fill that spot, but for now, we languish in the discord of a dangerous status quo.
